Traveling has opened my eyes not only to different cultures and food, but to something I never thought I would be interested in - design and architecture. I love traveling and seeing statues, monuments, and buildings that are alluring to the eyes but also create a landscape for years to come.

This is particularly evident in South Beach. This area is known for its art deco design, but a lot of this recognition can be given to one person - Morris Lapidus. Lapidus is considered by many to be Florida’s most famous architect of the mid-20th century. He is the architect of many great hotels, but my favorite is The Ritz Carlton, South Beach. His signature curving, sloping, and eye popping architecture gives the hotel a warm and hip vibe. The hotel stays true to its roots with breathtaking beach views, superbly decorated rooms, and decadent dining.

A little unknown African-American history fact on one of Mr. Lapidus designs is that the Woolworth's store, in Ponce de Leon Shopping Center in St. Augustine, was the scene of a nationally publicized civil rights lunch counter demonstration by local black high school students in 1963. Club Mansion is Miami's premier night club for the urban community. It features a large stage, Miami's best DJs and top shelf drinks. I would not suggest going during Memorial Day weekend, but any other time Mansion is the place to be in Miami.
