The Majestic Yosemite National Park

San Francisco, California

Runners, hikers, jumpers, skiers or just plain walkers are attracted to Yosemite National Park. Bring the whole family, to the most majestic place on earth. With its picturesque landscape and Rolling Meadows, you will see the famous sites of Half Dome, El Capitan, and Glacier Point. In spring, the water falls flow like ribbons of majestic liquid; its beauty is unmatched by any heavenly body of water this side of the Mississippi.

Yosemite is home to many species of wild life and some can be seen feasting on the land and trees like Mother Nature intended. There are many trails for running, hiking and sight seeing for the entire family. If you are a climber, then make your trek to El Capitan and share the experience along side many other avid climbers.

Did you know that both the African American Mounted Infantry and the 9th Cavalry were entrusted with the protection of Yosemite National Park? They had almost completely disappeared from Yosemite’s history. There are some of us who have been there and wouldn't know or care that they ever existed more than 100 years ago. But, in 1903, nearly 400 African-American soldiers made the dusty journey on …

Amoeba Music: Back Down Memory Lane

San Francisco, California

It's a music lover's paradise, a cavernous warehouse with endless rows of new and used CDs. Amoeba Music is the world's largest independent music store. We're talking a 24,000-square-foot former bowling alley with every type of music imaginable.

This San Francisco spot will take you back to the days before iPod. It's the kind of place where you could easily lose a couple of hours and serious amount of coin, snatching up CDs and vinyl, even if you don't really buy them anymore.

Diggin' in the bargain bins, I found $1 and $1.99 CDs from Arrested Development, Lenny Kravitz, the Eurythmics, Prince, Ella AND Sade before her comeback. Sure, this is the age of digital downloads, but at a buck or two for a CD or album... you do the math. They even sell turntables if you need a replacement.

There are branches of the store in Berkeley and Hollywood, too, but head to the heart of San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury, the birthplace of America's counterculture. There, the tradition of making melodies on the street is alive and well. In fact, if you're lucky, you may catch a live gig at the store.

After your …

Romantic Lake Tahoe

San Francisco, California

If you want to rekindle the romance there is no other place like South Lake Tahoe, with its majestic rocky mountain landscape, old world style hotels and one of the world’s most beautiful lakes.

Tahoe has a rich history of mountain and boating sports. You can ski in the winter and boat in the summer and, sometimes throughout the year, you can do both. There is legalized gambling in So Lake Tahoe right on the Nevada border. Two historic hotels - Harrah’s and Harvey’s - both of which have been fixtures for decades, light the way to card tables, live music, cabaret shows and bells ringing of jackpot slot machines winners. Harvey’s is home to the Improve Comedy Club, which showcases great talent from all over the comedy talent pool. I recommend Mirabelle, a French, European styled restaurant. Most of Lake Tahoe has a European flavor, beautifully designed chateaus... breakfast crepes at Heidi’s.

There is a fabulous gondola ride that will take you to the top of Lake Tahoe for a panoramic view of the entire region from North to South, East to West, it is one of the most beautiful …
