Barbershop Spotlight: The Fade Shop In Dallas
Dallas - Fort Worth, Texas
For the travelers who have no time to get a haircut before they board the plane, but still need to look fresh when they are out of town, Barbershop Spotlight is going beyond pointing you to a local Supercuts. Instead, we show you the spot where the locals go to get their haircut.
In Dallas, Texas, The Fade Shop has quickly become an institution in its 6 years of business. CEO Ozell Graham was already a formidable, home-trained barber when he joined the Army in 1996. While enlisted in the army and overseas, Graham took to cutting hair for his fellow troops. Pretty soon, there was a sign in front of his tent, advertising his services to anyone who needed them. He didn't charge money, he cut hair for anyone who needed it out as though it was his calling, even cutting hair for free for kids who were in a nearby orphanage in Taszar, Hungary.
When Graham returned to the United States, he received the proper credentials to cut hair professionally and opened up The Fade Shop in 2005 where he has taken his military values and applied them to his business philosophy. It's no wonder Steve Harvey honored The Fade Shop with the title of Best Barbershop in America in 2008 at his annual Hoodie Awards. The barbershop, located in North Dallas, has some of the best barbers in the city cutting hair.
Inside, the shop is a modern take on the classic barbershop. Beautiful bronze portraits of black men cutting hair hang up on the walls alongside autographed sports jerseys and military paraphernalia. The hardwood floors are constantly swept clean and the barber chairs are plush black leather. They even sell clothing, shoes, and accessories.
Unlike some barbershops, which always seem to attract large groups of men, The Fade Shop makes itself comfortable to all who come in, whether they are women, children, or out-of-towners. Their star-studded clientele has includes everyone from Usher and Ludacris, to NFL All-Pro Roy Williams and NBA All-Star Chris Paul. Anyone paying attention to the haircuts on those gentlemen will believe The Fade Shop is the place to get a fade or any other type of cut when in Dallas.
