Miracle on Fifth Avenue
NY - Manhattan, New York
Despite my many trips to New York City, I have never been there during the holiday season. This was my lucky year. Strolling back from an Italian meal, I noticed a lot of activity around Rockefeller Center. No hurry to get back to my cramped hotel quarters, I thought I would take a peek at what all the fuss was about. I rounded the corner of 30 Rock and there it was: the most beautiful Christmas tree I have ever seen, with all of the trappings only NYC could bring. The beautiful gold statue of Prometheus, the ice skating rink, thousand of adults, kids and teenagers snapping photos and the backdrop of hung snowflakes clinging from Macy’s across the street. It was a scene from a Hollywood movie.
So if you are lucky to be in the city during the holiday season make sure you drop by. Who knows I may leave a present for you under the tree.

As a New Yorker (sort of), I love that you appreciate the tree. There is absolutely nothing like being in New York during the holiday season. It warms even the coldest Grinches and Scrooges. Just one thing...the store across the street is Saks Fifth Avenue (not Macy's). Macy's is on 34th Street and worth another visit! And I will look for my gift! Happy Holidays.

Crowed is an understatement. The Christmas tree at Rockefeller is unquestionably stunning even from afar. Makes me rethink my plastic Christmas tree at home.

Thanks again, SkyKing, for another great entry. I've only done NYC in the spring and fall...will make it a point to see it during the holidays now.

I have experienced NY during christmas and New Year. The looking andtaking pictures with the tree and my sister probably one of the best christmas i have had. I also expeirence the ball drop in Time Square. It is funny how I know a number of New Yorkers and never experience neither one. Sometimes it sad when people don't experience what is in there on backyard......Happy Holidays to all

First Class. Thanks for the correction. Saks is across the street not Macy's. There is quite a price point difference :-)

I have never been to NYC during the holiday season, but I think I'll start making plans now for next year.

Hi SkyKing, I grew up in NYC and remember Rockefeller Center and ice skating and the best Macy's ever!!! But I am a Cali girl now and only get back to NY and NJ in the Spring and Summer...one year I went back for Thanksgiving and got lucky with the weather!!! Thanks for the memories and maybe I need to invest in some warm clothes and get back there in December. It was 80 degrees in LA today!!!!

Nice to give you memories Daybreak. Next year throw on your heaviest wool coat and join us in some 32 degree Christmas weather.

Good story SkyKing. If you are in that area make sure you also go to Teuscher (right across from the angels) for the best Champagne Truffles. As a former NY'er, my favorite memory is when my parents took me and my sister to see it every year. Every year the tree looked bigger than the previous one.
