Weekend in St. Lucia

St. Lucia, Saint Lucia

The island nation of St. Lucia is situated in the eastern Caribbean Sea and bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, just north of Barbados and south of Florida. The topography of this natural wonder includes mountains, rainforest and miles of palm tree-lined, white-sand beaches. So whether the goal is to relax, snuggle with your boo or embark on a adrenalin rush of an adventure, Saint Lucia can deliver.

Fortunately, if time is of the essence and you only have a weekend to spend in this Shangri-la, we have a few suggestions for your consideration. And remember, you’re in paradise, so there’s no particular order for the activities, just relax and go with the flow.

The people are as warm as the Caribbean breeze, so don’t hesitate to strike up a conversation. St. Lucians love to talk about their country.

On Friday night, head straight over to Gros Islet, a small fishing village, for “jump up.” Jump up features music, dancing and the freshest seafood in the Western Hemisphere. If you’re not sure what to do, just follow the locals’ lead.

Don’t miss: Having a spa treatment. Soufriere Volcano supplies the minerals and, lucky for you, resort spas use those minerals to create treatments that are unparalleled. Numerous public and private mineral baths are available on the island. Treat yourself to aromatherapy with your massage, it’s an experience you’ll relive in your mind over and over again.

Entertainment: Rodney Bay Village – laze on the glorious beach at Rodney Bay during the day, then head to Bay Mall for lunch and shopping. Or not, it’s up to you. But later, when the nightclubs crank up, get ready to dance to the Caribbean rhythms until the wee hours of the morning.

If dancing is not you’re thing, you can always hedge your bets at the new 30,000-square-foot Rodney Bay Casino with its 257 slot machines and 22 gaming tables.

Restaurants are abundant and there are myriad cuisines available, from purely Caribbean to Mexican, Indian, and Creole influences. You’re never far from a good meal.

The Quintessential Experience: Deep sea fishing, horseback riding, kayaking, kite surfing, mountain biking, golfing, sailing, scuba diving, segways and whale watching...the possibilities are endless.

Stay: There are a range of options for accommodations, from all-inclusive resorts to boutique hotels. At the luxurious Marigot Bay, yachtsman (and women) can find shelter for the boat and the crew, all in one location.

Ti Kaye Village, which sits on a hillside overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The gingerbread-style cottages boast large balconies with two rocking chairs and a two-person hammock. Each room also has an open-air “garden” shower. Some rooms have a plunge pool. Sounds like the ideal spot for a romantic getaway.
